Bio

Sophia Waxman is currently a PhD student in the Biomedical Engineering Department and a Masters student in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, working in the Bioastronautics and eXploration Systems (BXS) Laboratory. Sophia received her Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware. She is currently working on a project in collaboration with the Design Department's Wearlab on wearable health monitoring technology for space exploration applications. This project addresses technology gaps in continuous, non-invasive, gravity independent, remote health monitoring technology necessary for ensuring astronaut health for space station operations or for future planetary expeditions. Her background includes engineering design and testing, materials, physiological and human considerations in engineering design, and interdisciplinary integration.
